Starting in 2016, CentraCare teamed with Pope Architects to develop a facility master plan at the Monticello campus to improve patient wayfinding, enhance organizational changes and update operational efficiency.

Following a new inpatient psychiatric unit, surgery center and MRI improvements, the team embarked on a redesign of the main entrance and a phased renovation of the entire Emergency Department. Both projects increase patient experience through intuitive wayfinding and ease of accessibility.

The Emergency Department design increases operational efficiency and security, redevelops a former ambulance bay into two trauma rooms, adds new behavioral health “safe room” suites to support patients in mental health crises, adds new exam rooms, provides an on-stage/off-stage flow, and adds a new ambulance garage.
